Grace
Sammon is a nationally known speaker, trainer, facilitator, workshop presenter,
and author. Grace specializes in developing creative linkages and collaborative
efforts between schools and business, establishing and developing high
school career academies; designing and implementing school-to-work transition
programs for youth; youth leadership summits, delivering teacher and school
personnel training; writing thematic curriculum for elementary and middle
schools; and assistance with non-profit organization management.
Her other areas of expertise are in school
reform centering around small learning communities and career academies;
creating and managing work-based learning experiences for students in
grades 4-12; and in developing effective school-community partnerships.
Grace assisted in the development of a school-to career transition program
for inner-city youth, which resulted in a 91% graduation rate in one of
America’s most challenged public high schools. This work was featured
on the PBS documentary “Across the River”.
Ms Sammon has authored eight manuals on
school-to career transition; created “Metro MANIA: The Great Train
Ride Through Washington,” a board and street experience game to
facilitate student use of public transportation. She also authored five
integrated curricular pieces for use in middle schools; and a teen pregnancy
prevention curriculum and training manual.
With a special dedication to high school
reform and career academies, she has focused much of her effort on high
school career academies. She is the Co-Founding Director of the National
Career Academy Coalition (NCAC); and is currently assisting the U.S. Department
of Health and Human Services and Johns Hopkins University on two separate
national career academy efforts.
